अहं ब्रह्म अस्मि
aham brahmāsmi
That in whom reside all beings
and who resides in all beings,
who is the giver of grace to all,
すべての生きるものがそのなかに住まうそれ
そしてすべての生きるもののなかに住まうそれ
すべてに恩恵を与える者
the Supreme Soul of the universe,
the limitless being --
宇宙の至高なる魂
無限なる存在
I am that. 私はそれだ

तत्त्वमसि
tat tvam asi
That which permeates all,
すべてに浸透するそれ
which nothing transcends
何ものも超越することのできないそれ
and which, like the universal space around us,
fills everything completely from within and without,
われわれをとりまく普遍の空間のように
内なるものから外なるものまで
すべてを完全にみたすそれ
that Supreme non-dual Brahman --
至高なる非二元性のブラフマン ー
that thou art. あなたはそれだ

これが、ブラフマン
そして、これが、アートマ・ヴィチャーラ
The seeker is he who is in search of himself.
探求者とは 自分自身を探している人だ
Give up all questions except one: "Who am I?"
「私は誰か？」以外のすべての質問を放棄しなさい
After all, the only fact you are sure of is that you are.
結局、あなたが確信できる唯一の事実とは
あなたは在るということだけだ
The "I am" is certain.
「私は在る」は確かだ
The "I am this" is not.
「私はこれだ」は確かではない
Struggle to find out what you are in reality.
真実のあなたとは何なのか
それを見出すために努めなさい
To know what you are,
you must first investigate and know what you are not.
あなたが何なのかを知るために
あなたが何ではないかを知りなさい
Discover all that you are not --
あなたではないものすべてを発見しなさい
body, feelings thoughts, time, space, this or that --
nothing, concrete or abstract, which you perceive can be you.
身体、感情、思考、時間、空間、あれやこれ……
具象であれ、抽象であれ
あなたに知覚できるものはあなたではない
The very act of perceiving shows that
you are not what you perceive.
知覚するという行為そのものが
あなたの知覚するものが
あなたではないことを示している
The clearer you understand
on the level of mind
you can be described in negative terms only,
the quicker will you come to the end of your search
マインドのレベルにおいては
あなたは 否定的言語によってしか 描写できない
ということをより明確に理解するほど
あなたの探究はより早く終焉を迎える
and
realise that
you are the limitless being.
そして、
あなたが 無限の存在であることを
悟るのだ
